Meet Olorato James, the 34 year Letlhakane native who is an ‘Extra Heavy Duty Driver’

Meet Olorato James, the 34 year Letlhakane native who is an ‘Extra Heavy Duty Driver’ currently with Khato Civils construction company.
The lady revealed to us that she graduated with a BGCSE certificate, and went on to acquire the EC drivers licence which qualified her to be an Extra heavy duty driver.
She has 2 years experience as a heavy duty driver.
James worked at Kalcon as heavy duty driver for a period of 1 year from September 2018 to September 2019. In October 2019 to June 2020 she worked at Stefanutti Stocks Botswana, also as a heavy duty driver before joining Khato Civils where she is currently. She was initially hired as a heavy duty driver before being trained by Khato Civils and later promoted to a Trencher Operator now, making her one of the first women if not the first to operate a Trencher in Botswana.
“I am very excited knowing that I am the only and first lady to operate that (Trencher) machine in Botswana,” James had this to say for herself.
When commenting on the issue, Chairman of Khato Civils, Simbi Phiri said they have made a promise and a commitment to help empower more Batswana and mentor them. The company is just two months into their project and have already hired more than 500 Batswana on site, and is said to continue to engage more. He further revealed that, more and more Batswana will be mentored and trained to get the expertise they need for the market, over and above their salaries.
